What separates a good coach from a great one?

Training sessions, man-management, in-game changes and recruitment all matter.

Which part of the job separates the best coaches from the rest, and why?

For me, it’s how they handle the supporters and the overall mood of the club during a tough away stretch. The decent ones set up the team right for the tactics, but the truly great ones manage to keep the squad unified and the away end believing even when form dips. You can really feel that connection from the stands. Have you noticed managers who always come over to applaud the away fans at full-time tend to get more out of their squads away from home?
